The course is completed over two years. A BTEC First Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSEs grades A*-C.
Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic, workplace situations, activities and demands. Students completing the Diploma course will also have the opportunity to spend one afternoon a fortnight in a work placement.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to choose whether to continue to the Applied A-Level in Business or follow another progression route.

Business
The Applied GCE in Business is a lively and vibrant course where you will be asked to use theory taught to investigate, for yourself, the operations of real businesses. Studying for the Applied GCE in Business means you will develop an inquiring mind alongside an active interest in business operations. The emphasis is very much on independent research, with assessments via verbal presentations and written assignments. The single award gives students 1 A level and the double award 2.
Students progress with an approximate 20:80 split between entering employment and higher education. Students will have developed the independence and research skills that are essential in business.
Economics
Why do countries fight wars, why do people live in poverty, why do Governments get elected and why does the Governments take money from you in tax? If you want to know the answers to these questions, then the study of economics is for you as it analyses the tensions and choices of both everyday and more unusual decisions.
Whilst the subject uses techniques that incorporate a variety of teaching andlearning styles, discussion and research, there is also an emphasis on developing a student’s ability to think logically and critically.
