Information Technology (ICT) Department

We would like all students to enjoy their ICT experience at Haybridge. We want everyone to develop their ICT skills whilst having fun and gaining transferable skills that are relevant to their own lives and experiences.

ICT is a dynamic and ever changing subject that opens up many different future paths and will stay with you and affect future decisions. We have excellent resources and would like all students and staff to utilise them to enhance their everyday lives. We are now established in the new ICT suite that holds over 100 computers and has two seminar rooms. This suite enhances ICT usage as a teaching tool across the curriculum.

The sixth form area has a redesigned Cisco lab and two other ICT suites. There is a strong, highly developed team spirit and the ICT departmental ethos is very enthusiastic towards the changes that lie ahead and will ensure our students are the e-learners of the future. We are proud to have been awarded the prestigious ICT Mark.

Key Stage 3

All students in Year 7 and 8 follow the National Curriculum for Information and Communication Technology. During key stage 3 students become increasingly independent users of ICT tools and information sources. They gain a better understanding of how ICT can help their work in other subjects and develop their ability to judge when and how to use ICT. They become more focused, efficient and rigorous in their use of ICT, and carry out a range of increasingly complex tasks. Much of the work pursued in ICT lessons links closely with other curriculum areas in the school. ICT is delivered through the 'Unlocking Learning Curriculum'.

Key Stage 4

Information Communication Technology is a core subject in Years 9, 10 and 11 and the course leads to the ‘OCR National First Certificate in ICT’ qualification. Students can also choose to study ICT as an option subject alongside core ICT. The OCR National Award in ICT is equivalent to 2 GCSE's. They complete three units.

Unit 2 - Webpages

Unit 4 - Multimedia

Unit 8 - Technological Innovation & E-Commerce

During key stage 4 students become more responsible for choosing and using ICT tools and information sources. We aim for them to use a wide range of ICT applications confidently and effectively. The use of the interactive whiteboard and projectors in all ICT suites has enhanced the students’ learning experience. We have a very dynamic digital curriculum and look forward to the students being able to access this from home via the Haybridge learning platform.

Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form)

We offer two courses:

  • AS/A2 Applied ICT
  • CISCO Certified Networking Associate (CCNA & CCENT): These are industry-recognised qualifications that prepare students for a career as a networking professional.
