Haybridge House System

Haybridge has six houses. After much thought and consideration, the school council's decision was:

Churchill Redgrave Nightingale Elgar Austen MacArthur

Why have the names changed?

The school's intake has increased this year. We we now have years 7 & 8, so we needed to add two new houses. Rather than add two new houses to the existing four, the school council decided to have six new houses.

Who are the houses named after?

All houses are named after famous Britons:

  • Jane Austen
A 19th Century novelist, who wrote Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma amongst other novels.
  • Winston Churchill
Prime Minister during World War II and was considered to have been the most inspirational war leader of the 20th Century.
  • Edward Elgar
The most significant British composer of his time. He lived near Worcester and his most famous composition is 'Pomp and Circumstance'.
  • Ellen MacArthur
The fastest woman to sail around the world single-handed.
  • Florence Nightingale
Who began nursing during the Crimea War, set up a training school for nurses at St Thomas's Hospital and established modern nursing standards.
  • Steve Redgrave
Who won a record breaking five consecutive Olympic gold medals for rowing.
