The Independent Learning Centre

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is staffed and supervised everyday from 8am to 5pm. The Librarian Mrs Pennington and Library Assistant Mrs McKenna will be pleased to help you find books or other information.

The ILC is here to help staff and students teach and learn effectively. There are about 10,000 books and a selection of videos, DVD's and CD-ROMs as well as daily newspapers. The careers library also provides further education and careers information. The staff library provides education resources.

Students in the lower school are allowed to borrow four books at a time and sixth formers up to six. The loan period is two weeks and fines become payable at 10p per day for overdue books, reminders are sent via tutor groups and books may be renewed for as long as needed.

The photocopier is available for students and staff to do small amounts of copying; the students have to pay for each copy made at a minimal cost.

In addition, there are 16 computers in the library. The ICT Suite has enough computers for lessons, training and outside groups and the room may be booked in advance for lessons through the library staff. Other computer rooms may be booked in the same way.

The ILC is a silent working area and the environment is maintained as a pleasant working area by not allowing food, drink, walkmans, phones or bags. The computers are for research only and students must work individually in order to retain the quiet atmosphere. The computers are always in high demand and a booking system is used during lunch times to enable students to reserve a computer for working.

Please do let us know if we can help in any way.
