September 2008 saw the exciting launch of the new QCA curriculum. At Haybridge, we have taken the opportunity to bring the needs of our students together in a well designed curriculum that enables them to become:
- successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
- confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
- responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society
We want our students to enjoy active lessons with more real life contexts. They need to see a relevance and coherence to their entire curriculum by using a wider repertoire of learning approaches and we want to respond to the fact that students welcome a challenge.
At KS3, we are building upon the success of our Unlocking Learning curriculum to enable students to see links across a range of different subject areas. A wide range of subjects will work together to teach through an increased focus on competencies and skills. Students will need to take responsibility, show initiative, be flexible and adaptable, have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to solve problems and generate new ideas. Subject specialists will still teach in their specialist subject ares.
At KS4, we continue to offer a wide range of options to our students. For September 2009 we are adding the BTEC First Certificate in Health and Social Care along with five new Diploma lines; Creative and Media, IT, Society Health and Development, Business and Administration and Health & Beauty. We continue to offer four differentiated support programmes that devote half day blocks to extending and consolidating learning, managing coursework and homework and enriching the examined curriculum experience. They will all combine guidance and support with time for independent study, together with access to appropriate enrichment opportunities.
At KS5, we have worked closely with Hagley Catholic High School for a number of years. Students have access to any course delivered at either school through a common Sixth Form timetable. September 2007 saw the introduction of a number of new courses throughout the whole CONTINU consortium. As a result of this, we were able to offer a number of AS courses to our students for the first time; Accounting, Dance, Food Technology, Geology, Graphics, Media Studies, Philosophy and Textiles to name but a few. This collaboration also enables us to offer a wide range of full or part time Level 2 and 3 courses including some of the new Diplomas.
